The Hunger Games

 The Hunger Games, is the first book in the trilogy. Behind in times, I only got the chance to read this book a week ago. Followed by the next to in the series. This one was so captivating and interesting I basically ran to Chapters for the next two. Right from the start I wasn't sure. The title didn't really grab my attention. My first reaction was oh great, I probably wont get past the chapter. My second: this isn't about people eating each other is it? So after a long and not so painful argument with myself I bought it. 
                                                                                                                                                                The book is being told by it's main character Katniss. (Though we do not learn her name until page 7.) The first chapter really caught my attention. From there names being so odd, to trying to get a grasp on her world. Though you can just read the back to figure at least part of it out: 
"In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the other districts in line by forcing them to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight-to-the-death on live TV.One boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and sixteen are selected by lottery to play. The winner brings riches and favor tohis or her district. But that is nothing compared to what the Capitol wins: one more year of fearful compliance with its rule. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her impoverished district in the Games.But Katniss has been close to dead before - and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love." 

Let the hunger games begin. You wont be able to put the book down until they end... at least till the next one. Katniss's character can be frustrating and unlikeable at times. Sometimes I wished I could pull her out of the book and scream at her. Though despite her at times dull personality. You can not help but relate to her, and fall in love. She is the reason I fell in love with the book. Also the general aspect is just wordless. It is about the government in total control. The government that usually is meant to protect us, puts children in an arena to kill one another. The poverty, and the extremely rich. The book makes you think. It makes you fall in love. 

Though it is Young Adult. I recommend it to everyone. It is one of those books that shouldn't have an age category. It can be loved by all.
